LeMeridian / Evoke / ArtPop

Getting my ArtPop mini billboard from Wendy L. Hickey.

I am very excited and happy to be one of the 2016 ArtPop artists for the Charlotte, NC area.
I was honored to receive my mini billboard and will treasure it always. Thank you Wendy.

You are invited to the event at Art and Aperitif tomorrow night at LeMeridien in Uptown Charlotte. (see invite below) You will meet very interesting people and I get to show what I do.

I will be there with 3 of the other artists from 5:30 to 8:30pm and will have a demo table to show how I create an encaustic.

Speaking of interesting people, you will also get to meet Wendy L. Hickey, ArtPop Founder, as an added bonus!!

April & May Encaustic Workshop

All you need is the desire to express. Don't worry about all that other stuff. We have fun here!

Why Encaustics
Wax is an ancient artistic medium used originally to repair broken clay vessels and caulk boats. By adding pigments and resin into the wax a paint was created. Being non reactive to other materials, impervious to moisture & mold and instant drying, this medium is extremely versatile.

About the Artist
Chris Craft is a fine artist with a long commercial art history. He has painted for most of his life in a variety of styles and media. But, encaustic abstract paintings are his passion where he experiments with color and sculptural texture. Craft layers the melted wax with different techniques, including
actually painting with the flame. See more at: http://www.chriscraftartist.blogspot.com

CSA 2016

Received!! 50 panels from Artist's & Craftsmen.

Wow! well thats a lot of panels.
This was quite a project. I applied for and was accepted as one of the artists to participate in the Community Supported Arts Program (CSA) brought to you by the Arts and Science Council

I urge artists to apply for this opportunity as it is very rewarding! I thank the investors, without whom there would be no CSA.  50 investors each get one of the paintings and there are 9 artists who participate.  The investors end up taking home 9 original pieces of art.

I chose to find 10 locations around Charlotte and paint 5 of each image. Some are more representational and some are more abstracted.

After approx. 50 days.

Open Studio-Encaustics!!

Saturdays: from 2-6pm
Jan. 23rd & 30th
Feb. 13th, 20th & 27th

For some time now I have wanted to start an open studio
for encaustic artists in and around Charlotte.
Maybe the beginning of an Encaustic Guild.

So I am starting this class for those of you who have taken
my intro class and wish to continue learning or for those
already working in wax and like to work around
others of similar interest.

I will open my studio and provide advise on your project
(if you wish). We will all paint together and create an environment
for the exploration of encaustics.

You bring your own supplies and project.
I will have 2 big heated palettes and 2 hot plates I will share.

$25/hr 2hrs minimum up to 4 hours available.
You must pre-register through PayPal button below.

Useful information

Joanne Mattera posted this blog that answers many of the questions that I get about painting with encaustics. It's worth a read.
